Design for a Cause

Evening with Flair

In September 2005 and 2006, the Foundation for Breast and Prostate Health sponsored an Evening of Elegance and a Day of Elegance in the Marketplace Design Center. The event raised funds to create awareness and support research in our continuing efforts to eradicate breast and prostate cancer.

The Marketplace Design Center is Philadelphia’s premier source of quality furnishings for the interior design professional. With fifty spectacular showrooms, the design center features an impressive array of products from over 700 manufacturers, including furniture, fabric, kitchen, bath, lighting, accessories, antiques, audio visual systems, building products, and floor and wall coverings, for residential and office settings. The Center is open to design professionals and their clients. It is not open to the general public. However, on the Evening and Day of Elegance all six major furniture showrooms on the first floor opened their doors to friends of the Foundation for Breast and Prostate Health.

The event showcased themed room and table settings created by noted interior designers and florists, along with culinary treats provided by Delaware Valley's premier caterers and pastry chefs.  About 60 interrior designers, 30 florists, and 25 caterers participated in the 2005 and 2006 event, donating their time and talents to join the Foundation in its ongoing fight against prostate and breast cancer.  In 2006, the Day of Elegance provided a rare opportunity for ticket holders to purchase select items at special FBPH prices in a "2400 On Sale." involving all of the center's showrooms.

The 2008 event, renamed Design for a Cause, was held at the Marketplace Design Center on Thursday November 13th and Friday, November 14th. More than 60 Interior Designers, Floral Decorators and Caterers, combined their talents to create exciting room vignettes and table settings. As in the past, the designer rooms continued to be on display the day following the event. Admission to the “Design for a Cause” evening was $75 per person. Admission to the following day was a donation of $20 or more.
