Big Hang Up Event
Breast Health International’s sixth annual “Big Hang Up” took place on October 2, 2007 (as always, the first Tuesday of Breast Cancer Awareness Month). This special event consists of hanging up individual and corporate T-shirts containing personalized messages honoring breast cancer survivors or lost loved ones. The T-shirts are collected and hung by BHI staff, survivors and their families, and company representatives, on temporary clotheslines strung in LOVE Park in Center City Philadelphia. Thanks to the Mayor's office, the fountain in LOVE Park flows with pink-colored water for the month!
While BHI focuses on raising funds to support scientific advances and research in the fight against breast cancer, promoting education and awareness is also a vital part of our mission. This special event, which draws a substantial noon-time audience, is designed to help heighten breast cancer awareness and provide a way for family members and friends to honor loved ones who have fought or are fighting the battle against breast cancer.
After the noon event, the T-shirts are placed on display for the remainder of the week in the Rotunda at Liberty Place, a magnificent Center City retail shopping complex nestled between Liberty One and Liberty Two office towers.
The pink water fountain and the Big Hang Up have become a traditional part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Philadelphia.
